Our children are extremely fortunate to have the exciting opportunity to take part in a real-life democratic experience when choosing our Pupil Parliament members.
To begin the process, the children listen to teachers delivering their own campaign pitches. This year, teachers were challenged to pitch an idea for an additional activity for our outdoor play provision. The pitches were fun, creative and, of course, very competitive!
Once all the pitches had been heard, it was time for the children to have their say. They headed to the polling stations to cast their votes, experiencing first-hand how a democratic election works. The votes were then carefully counted and verified before the winning idea was announced.
This year, the children voted for… a school maze!
We always strive to listen to and act upon our children's views, so we are now exploring how we can bring their winning idea to life. Watch this space as we see how we can make our school maze a reality!
It is a wonderful way for our children to see democracy in action and to understand that their voices, choices and opinions really do matter.
