At Broadwood Primary School, we believe that every child deserves to feel happy, safe, valued and understood. Every child is unique, and we are committed to creating a warm, nurturing and inclusive school community where all children feel a true sense of belonging and are supported to thrive.
Our children are at the heart of everything we do. We celebrate their individuality, recognise their strengths and nurture their talents, whilst ensuring that every child is given the encouragement, care and support they need to reach their full potential. We have high aspirations for all our children and believe that, with the right support, every child can experience success, grow in confidence and develop a lifelong love of learning.
Early Identification and Removing Barriers
We believe that early identification is key to ensuring that every child receives the right support, at the right time. By getting to know our children as individuals, listening carefully to their voices and working closely with their families, we aim to recognise additional needs as early as possible.
We understand that every child's journey is different and that some children may need additional support along the way. Through early identification, thoughtful assessment and timely intervention, we work proactively to identify and remove barriers to learning, ensuring that difficulties do not prevent children from feeling successful, confident and included.
Our approach is rooted in understanding the whole child, recognising not only their learning needs but also their emotional, social and physical wellbeing. We want every child to feel that they belong, that their voice matters and that they are capable of achieving wonderful things.
Nurturing Every Child to Flourish
We are passionate about providing a nurturing learning environment where children feel secure, supported and encouraged to take risks, overcome challenges and celebrate their achievements, however big or small.
We recognise that children learn and develop in different ways. Through high-quality, inclusive teaching, appropriate adaptations and carefully planned support, we strive to ensure that learning is accessible, engaging and meaningful for everyone.
We provide personalised support and set ambitious yet achievable goals, helping children to develop independence, resilience and confidence in their own abilities. Our aim is not simply for children to make academic progress, but for them to grow as happy, confident individuals who believe in themselves.
Working Together to Make a Difference
We know that the best outcomes for children are achieved when schools, families and professionals work together.
Parents and carers are our partners, and we value the knowledge, understanding and insight they bring about their children. We are committed to building positive, trusting relationships through open, honest and regular communication. Families are encouraged to share their thoughts, celebrate successes and discuss any concerns, knowing that they will always be listened to and supported.
Our dedicated staff are committed to continually developing their knowledge and understanding of SEND through ongoing professional development and training. This enables us to respond sensitively and effectively to the changing needs of our children.
We provide a range of carefully planned interventions and additional support, including opportunities to develop reading, handwriting, numeracy, communication, emotional wellbeing and social skills. Where appropriate, we also offer targeted programmes, including speech and language and occupational therapy activities.
We work closely with external professionals and specialist services, including Sensational and the Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) team, to ensure that children and families can access additional expertise and support when needed.
Our SEND Lead, Mrs Rachel Dangerfield, works closely with children, families, staff and external agencies to ensure that every child receives the support they need. She regularly participates in local authority networks and works collaboratively with colleagues across the West End Schools' Trust to share good practice and continually strengthen our inclusive provision.
We warmly welcome conversations with parents and carers and maintain an open-door approach, ensuring that our class teachers and SEND Lead are approachable and available to offer guidance, reassurance and support.
Our Promise to Every Child
At Broadwood Primary, inclusion is more than simply meeting needs. It is about ensuring that every child feels they belong, every strength is recognised, every voice is heard and every achievement is celebrated.
We will strive to identify needs early, remove barriers quickly, nurture individual strengths and provide the right support at the right time, so that every child has the opportunity to feel happy, achieve, belong and thrive.
Every child matters. Every child belongs. Every child can flourish.
