Healthy Schools

Broadwood Primary School is pleased to announce we have completed another successful application to be recognised as a 'Newcastle Healthy School'.The Newcastle Healthy School Programme is a quality assured structured programme which supports schools to become more health promoting here is what was written about our School:

  •  Excellent practice displayed particularly in relation to emotional health and wellbeing and supporting the most vulnerable. Your focus on resilience and respect as core themes of foci is welcome, as is the family support and play therapy offered. The range of support available to pupils and links with support agencies, including the school nursing service are clearly supporting pupil wellbeing.
  •  The  inclusive PSHE programme  is well planned, coordinated and assessed. This is clearly supported by your long term involvement in the Health Related Behaviour Survey and it is pleasing to hear of your intention to use the survey results to influence and further improve the programme.
  • Broadwood Primary has an embedded health promoting ethos and the active involvement of governors in this is an asset. It will be interesting to learn of the impact of the intended further development of the  pupil parliament interaction and feedback to governors on healthy schools and PSHE.
  •  Physical activity is a strength with the provision of the newly developed outdoor area helping to improve pupil physical activity levels.  The Daily Mile, trim trial, cycle and scooter track and OPAL programme are providing pupils with a range of opportunities to increase their physical activity levels, particularly important given the negative impact of Covid on pupil weight. The regular training of staff by the Newcastle PE and School Sport Service is adding value to the physical activity programme too, I am sure.
