Year 4 have taken part in a Social Emotional and Mental Health intervention. The aim of this project has been to develop their social and emotional well-being through creating and and talking about visual art. The class sessions were choice-based and child-centred. The aims of the intervention:
- Promote expression and communication of emotions through choice-based art.
- Build on emotion skills including recognising, labelling and understanding emotions in themselves and others.
- Develop emotional regulation strategies.
- Provide an opportunity for self- expression, contributing to a sense of autonomy and self-confidence.
- Build on social skills including empathy, listening and communicating feelings to others.
- Develop positive relationships in the class and promote a sense of connectedness and well-being.
